Porridge & Play Whiteinch Week 3
Porridge & Play Whiteinch 2024
Whiteinch Blog!
A Witchy Porridge & Storyplay afternoon at Whiteinch Library!
Whiteinch Library felt very witchy today as the brilliant librarians had selected a bunch of books for us about magic, fanatic creatures, werewolves, vampires, monsters and of course witches!
Before we kicked off our Storyplay, Andre told us about Fred, Grace, John and Bella Spears who are all characters in the brilliant song ‘Jelly On His Head’ and then for our warm up today we gave ‘Hello! My Name is Joe’ a go!
We all felt how poor Joe must feel after a long day of work at the Button Factory!
Since mystery and magic was in the air we all dressed up as Witches and attended a mad Witches Convention where a crew from Witchy TV was interviewing those in attendance.
Amir became Oversized Witch and told the interviewer that his favourite potion is a powerful one but it’s recipe is a secret… Shhhh!
Nico became Witchy Lila and explained that she lives in a giant castle with animals and witches. Her fave potion is the Sword Potion which makes you fall sleep for 1 night and when you wake up you turn into a melon. He he he!
Sofia became Sassy Witch and her favourite potion turns people into a giant nose! Achoo!
And Witchy Andre taught every other Witch how to make their own Dancing Potion mixing all sort of things in their cauldrons and while all the witches were practising the recipe they all ended up having a bit of a boogie!
And then, the big event…Witchy Andre had a Magic Ball!!
A Magic Ball is a fantastic thing because it is so small that you can carry it in your pocket and you can blow it up so big that yourself and your friends can climb inside it and chat about where you’d like to go!
So the Witches did exactly that. When they were inside many ideas of different destinations came up: the desert, the beach, mysterious lands never visited before….But the thing about a Magic Ball is that you never quite know where you’ll end up!
So we chanted the magic words ‘Magic Ball, Magic Ball takes us where we want to go!’ And we took off!!
We landed in a strange place called Sassy Land where everyone has sass and gets photographed constantly! We didn’t really know how to be sassy but luckily Sassy Witch gave us a quick class on sassy poses and sassy walks. Let me tell you, it’s very tiring!! As we were practising walking about in a sassy manner a photographer showed up and took lots of portraits of us all.
But then something peculiar happened…Oversized Witch decided he wanted to turn Sassy Land into Doomed Land and a bit of a disagreement ensued.
However, a fun game of Witches Fingers brought peace back to the land because all is much better when we play, relax and have fun with each other!
We climbed back into the Magic Ball and headed back to Whiteinch Library for our delicious picnic, our Licketyspit Art Gallery and to share our thoughts on books we took out from the library last week.
All in all a spookily fun Storyplay session at our beautiful Whiteinch Library!
See you next week for our last Porridge & StoryPlay session of this season which means play and PARTY!!!
Cami, Andre, Taz and The Whiteinch Friends
We almost always do ‘Reflective drawing’ at the end of a Storyplay session. It’s nice to relax and draw & think about what we’ve all done & how we feel about it.
Reflective drawing isn’t about doing a ‘good’ drawing – it’s about drawing whatever comes into your head when you think about what you’ve just done.
But as you draw you realise more about what you thought or imagined in the session. And it’s great to share that with everyone & hear what they thought! So many things go on in Storyplay!
Here are our Reflective Drawings from this week! Below is some of what we said!
READ SOME OF THE ARTIST’S REFLECTIONS FROM THE LICKETY ART GALLERY:
Me being the sassy queen, Amir took over and there was a war and then we made peace.
Its me and my daddy and my mammy going to the butterfly house
It has a lot of butterfly paper on and you can draw it. It’s just because I wanted to draw it.
I would go back in a big shiny bubble. And I gave one to my mum!
