New Porridge & Play Hubs!

2021-11-24T16:34:45+00:00

7th September 2021 We are thrilled to announce that Licketyspit has been funded by the New Scots Integration Fund to set up two new Porridge & Play Hubs in Glasgow!  Porridge & Play Hubs - Castlemilk & East End will be delivered in partnership with Storyplay Champion partners, parents/carers and children from these communities, with open sessions starting in the new year. The project has been designed in consultation with the Licketyspit Children & Families Network and draws on Licketyspit’s highly successful and well-evaluated intergenerational imaginary play project Big Porridge & Play Glasgow. We chose Castlemilk and the East End for this expansion because of the high numbers of asylum-seeking families living in and around these areas who have joined Licketyspit’s Porridge & Play Online sessions and further, because of the enthusiasm of our local partners to learn about and use Licketyspit’s Storyplay approach. Thank you very much for the opportunity to learn and play with my child. It has been a magical experience. They're like your best friends Like a big family round a table! Don't know where we'd be without this...no one's judging there's lots of acceptance, feels like we're being brought into the community. We learned a lot of new games and we keep on playing them during daytime as well and we both enjoy it. We are [...]

Unfearties for Play!

2021-11-29T10:46:16+00:00

Play Day Blog August 2021 We always say our shows are for everyone from 3-103, because we believe that when it comes down to it, we all need what children need, and when we meet the needs of children, we meet the needs of society.  Being an Unfeartie is about levelling up children and grown-ups, fostering intergenerational equity – like we do at our Porridge & Play sessions. Read Virginia's full Play Day 2021 blog for Children's Parliament HERE. “Thank you very much for the opportunity to learn and play with my child. It has been a magical experience.” Parent, Big Porridge & Play Glasgow Children's Rights & the Creative Arts June 2021 Virginia also took part in the Children's Parliament's Year of Childhood webinar series. This was as part of a panel discussing children's rights and the creative arts. You can watch the webinar discussion here:

Providing digital tablets to families who need them

2021-07-02T09:44:54+00:00

Have you heard the news?! A few months ago, we were overjoyed to receive funding which enabled us to buy tablets and SIM cards with mobile data for families in our network and beyond, who would struggle to buy these themselves. This meant that they could join in with our Big Porridge & Play Online sessions! We can now tell you that we've received further funding from Migration Exchange and have a limited number of additional Lickety Tablets for eligible families! If you are a migrant, refugee or asylum seeker looking to join our online imaginative play sessions, please get in touch to see if we can help you. Or, if you know a family who might benefit from this, help us to spread the word! Please note that as we do have a limited number to give out, unfortunately we can't guarantee availability - we will allocate the tablets to families who most meet our criteria. Email Ruby on cfn@licketyspit.com or text/call 07413 800 342 and we'll do our best to help! Why are we doing this? Well, as some of you may know, at Licketyspit we were already using lots of different ways to stay in touch with families in our network, as we knew not everyone could get online easily. As the pandemic hit this year, we spoke directly to our families - and this need for internet [...]

A message for everyone going back to school…

2020-11-30T11:00:09+00:00

If your children are going back to school this week, we want to remind you of something very important: you are BRILLIANT!  You've been learning, caring, creating, imagining, playing and supporting each other during lockdown! Everyone has missed school, so please try not to worry about getting behind or needing to catch up. Schools, and your children's teachers, will be there to help the transition back to normal learning.  If you're feeling worried, nervous, or just in need of a little extra encouragement or guidance, the following resources may be of use to you: Parent Club Parents can find information, resources, advice and support about the schools reopening and coronavirus in general on the Parent Club website. Back to School  This is the Children’s Parliament website, featuring lots of wellbeing resources for teachers - many of these may benefit parents too. Scottish Government guidance This is the government's guidance for schools and teachers on how to support a safe return for all children. We've missed schools being open too! Did you know that, before lockdown, the Licketyspit team also went to school? Only for a visit, of course - but what a lot of fun (and learning) we brought when we did! Together with children, parents and teachers, in Storyplay, we make up stories, play games, sing songs, teach [...]
