Porridge & Play Cranhill launch!
“Amazing interaction with the kids, loved the imaginative play!! Thank you :)” – Mum, Porridge & Play Cranhill
On Thursday 3rd February we launched Porridge & Play Cranhill at Cranhill Development Trust. It was so lovely to come together in person and meet so many wonderful children and their families!
We kicked off the Launch in true Porridge & Play style! We all came together around one big table and got to eat some homemade soup and try lots and lots of different fruit. We then got to watch our Storyplay Champion film all about Porridge & Play and what our Storyplay Champions like best about it on a big screen projector!
We then all came together in a circle to play some well-loved games that you can find on our Licketyspit playcards! Amber singing Grandma Grandma word for word was a shining example that once you’ve played the games you don’t want to stop. It was great to see that Amber could do all the actions too, showing that the true experts in play are children.
We of course took a trip in our Flying Balloons! This is when we landed at sea and discovered a Pirate ship! We all got to dress up as Pirates in true Licketyspit fashion. Pirate Presley was already an expert is dressing up having attended online sessions with us already. He was able to explain how we dress up. We don’t dress up with costumes, we make our own with things you can find around the house and our imaginations! It was so lovely to see the intergenerational play at Porridge & Play Cranhill! A true highlight was seeing Pirate Captain John tell us to walk to plank and go to Port with the help of his trusty First Mates Amber and Ellie! Once we were finished following the Pirate Captains orders, we were rewarded with a treasure chest that had flying balloons in them so that we could get home but before we could land, the naughty seagull popped our balloons! It was so great to play with families from Porridge & Play Online Tasters and School Tasters! But, it was also fantastic to see so many new families discovering Porridge & Play.
‘I loved it, I loved all of it’. Storyplay Champion Josephine said when telling us her favourite part of the Launch. Storyplay Champion Josephine works in the Cranhill area and will be at Porridge & Play Cranhill with all our amazing families.
We would like to say a BIG thank you to our funders and to Cranhill Development Trust for hosting Porridge & Play Cranhill with us. We would also like to say thank you to our Storyplay Champions Josephine, Sara, Mahek, Ibrahim & Fatima for all their support!
Porridge & Play Cranhill will be returning on Thursday 10th March, we can’t wait to play with you all!
What’s Next?
We can’t wait to see you all when our first block starts on Thursday 10th March!

Taster sessions at Cranhill Primary
‘I would like to say thank you on behalf of P2/1 and P1 for your session last week. The children had lots of fun and I think you will see their faces again at your Cranhill Development Trust sessions.’ – Miss Bennet at Cranhill Primary
On the 2nd February Andre, Effie, Taz and Rhianne got to visit Cranhill Primary and go on some magical adventures with the P1 and the P1/2 children and their teachers! ‘This is a rainbow, this is the boat, this is the sea and this is the sky! My favourite part was the sea, swimming on the sea.’ Tilly told us when describing how much she loved her taster of Porridge & Play!
‘My favourite game is the Funky Chicken!’ Amber explained and we got to meet some really Funky Animals! One was a Wriggly Octopus, one was a Barking Dog and one was a Rainbow Unicorn! We also got to swim in the sea using the power of our imaginations and a little help from our trusty silk. The children also got take an adventure in our Flying Balloons in which we got to see the Pyramid’s in Egypt! We also ran into some friendly Dragons which Pirate Captain Amelia helped befriend before making sure we did our make-up and ate all our grog.
We would like to thank Cranhill Primary for being so welcoming to us during this project! It has been great to interact with the children and staff and it was lovely to see familiar faces at the Launch of Cranhill Porridge & Play on Thursday 3rd February!
