Week 2 of Cranhill Porridge & Play!!

Thursday 17th March

What a wonderful second session!

Our carrot & coriander soup was very popular today with second helpings all round – it is always lovely to sit around the table as we share a meal and catch up on what all our families have been doing during the week.

After we’d eaten it was time to play some games – we met some truly wonderful animals in the Funky Chicken, particularly Josephine’s Snapping Crocodile, Amelia’s Cheeky Lion and Beauty’s Beautiful Goat. I can’t wait to see what animals you all come up with next week!

After that it was time to dress up and head into the forest to play Monster’s Footsteps. We met loads of grannies living in the forest with strange trees at the bottom of their garden, that seemed to turn into monsters and start creeping towards us. We had dancing trees, scary trees and lots of giggly trees but none of the grannies were scared at all! Granny Fatima, who lives with her baby monkey in a treehouse was far more interested in eating some delicious food and telling us about her home than worrying about the trees, and Granny Dear (Genesis) wasn’t scared at all from her river home. She spends her days playing Funky Chicken, so those trees don’t bother her at all.

We met so many interesting grannies and during our gallery it was clear that we could explore some more grannies in the future… perhaps we’ll sing a song about Grandma next week?

The Launch of our Storyplay for the Planet Zine!

We are so excited share our Storyplay for the Planet Zine which was created from stories and adventures with children and families in East Centre Ward as part of our Glasgow Life Residency!

A zine (short for magazine) is a type of book that is created with pictures, drawings and words.

On Saturday 12th March we all came together to celebrate the launch of our Zine! It was so much fun to see so many wonderful children and their families and get together to read and play! If you would like to read the Zine then visit our Storyplay for the Planet page!

Storyplay for the Planet’ was a Licketyspit project for Glasgow Life as part of the Creative Communities Artist in Residency programme, for the East Centre Ward (Cranhill, Riddrie, Carntyne, Springboig & Barlanark), funded by Glasgow City Council and delivered by Glasgow Life..

Between October 2021-March 2022, Licketyspit ran 13 Storyplay for the Planet sessions (6 in schools/nurseries, 4 online, 1 in Cranhill Park and 2 in Barlanark Community Centre).

We worked with 117 participants throughout this project and have been blown away by all their amazing, wonderful and creative ideas!

A huge thank you to each and every one of our participants. It’s been truly wonderful seeing and hearing all your ideas.
