Week 4 of Bridgeton Porridge & Play

Friday 1st April

There was lots of excitement on Friday 1st April at Church House for Porridge & Play!

We were all like one big family!

Moira & Leeanne asked us, ‘What are we gonna do for the next two weeks?!’ since we will be having a two week break for the holidays!  So we whipped out our Storyplay packs with our Playcards, crayons and notebooks for Reflective Drawing at home! We also had lots of fun information and game sheets to bring some of the magic we have at Porridge & Play home with you this break.

We always do Reflective Drawing at the end of our Storyplay sessions so we can enjoy thinking about all the great things that have happened when we all played the games together –

The funny animals we invented – the characters we dressed up as – the adventures we had in our balloons – the funny things people said – and all the things we imagined!

Reflective drawing is not about doing a ‘good’ drawing. It’s about just relaxing and drawing while you thinkIn fact, drawing while you think can help you realise what you think and how to put it into words to tell someone else! Which is what we do in the Storyplay Art Gallery!

YOU can use your Lickety Crayons & Pads to draw and reflect on anything you do at home or at school or outside! With your family or with your friends and by yourself! It can be a bit like the story of your life!

You need never to be bored! Feel free to draw…what happened? What you imagined? What you liked? What you thought? How you felt? And of course, what you played!

You can write on your pictures too or ask a grown up to write for you. You can even hold your own Gallery!

What a fun session!!

We played so many games this session, it was such fun! Starting with roaring out Big as a Bear, getting plucky with Funky Chicken, using different names for different body parts with Ickerickeroo, to creating a masterpiece with Let’s Bake A Cake and ending by singing a song about our favourite Grandma Grandma.

Alan is becoming a real Storyplay Champion! He was really inspiring in the games right from Big As A Bear! A true delight to see and one that we would love to see grow and blossom even more as we continue to play!
Funky Chicken is always a hoot! This session we had a whole forest full of fascinating animals like Lexi’s Funky Pig,Oink oink!’ goes the Funky Pig! It is so encouraging to see so many funny animals we can get to act out!

Let’s Bake a Cake was really lovely and popular As we put in our favourite dishes in to the cake, Moira put in some CURRY! Storyplay Champion Nicola put in some FISH & CHIPS! and Adesayo put in some PIZZA! With William’s BROCCOLI and Alan’s SPRINKLES it was a yummy cake with Marvellous saying “We are all the chefs” and Zahra putting the cake in the oven.

Effie started to ask us about body parts in Scots and led us into one of our favourite songs, Ickerickeroo! Saying funny words like breadbasket (tummy), chin waggler (chin) and teeth nasher! (teeth) It was so much fun watching everyone singing and doing the actions. Ickerickeroo was William’s Favourite game he told us “liked it because it’s funny and motivational.”

Grandma Grandma was hilarious! Hearing everybody sing the song together in our circle was beautiful with everyone dancing their socks off. Emilia and Maab smiling and clapping along as we sang, showing that everyone can be part of Storyplay!

Our Storyplay Champions Victoria, Adesayo, Mariam and Marvellous leading games and participating with such confidence is why we love doing what we do! We would not have had the same session without each and every participant! and it is so great to see everyone completely opening their imaginations even more each week!

Everyone was really involved in tidying up before we played. We saw lots of helpful families with Storyplay Champion attitudes! We really enjoyed the fact that there were lots of conversations between families today, it’s great to build bonds and feel like a part of such a welcoming and open community. We have loved getting to know you these past four weeks! How time has flown!

We will see you all in two weeks on Friday on the 22nd of April after our short Easter break!

Here is what we said about our Reflective Drawings from week 4….

I drawed us baking a cake. There’s strawberries & broccoli, the cake is for Sirenheads, it’s an invisible cake. My favourite game was the baking a cake. We could put some hot chillies on and broccoli and then put it in the oven and then it’s all done! Then it’s the best cake.’

Alan

That’s my name. It’s a cake with strawberries! Oink oink that’s the pig & meow! And carrots on the cake and blueberries.’

Lexi

This is Grandma Grandma, this is the cake and that’s the Grandma who is wearing a brown t-shirt and red trousers.’

Adesayo

My drawing is a cake with two candles, two chocolate caramel canes, two easter eggs, sprinkles, plum and bubblegum. The cake is for grandma’s birthday! Favourite game was Ickerickeroo. I liked it because it’s funny and motivational.’

William

That’s the sun, that’s the cake, that’s Grandma Grandma, chicken and the chefs! We are all the chefs. There is lots of sprinkles and all the ingredients in the cake. All of them were my favourite!’
