Big Porridge & Play Ruchill Week 3

2022-07-13T15:55:24+00:00

11th May 2019 Our 3rd BIG Porridge & Play Glasgow session in Ruchill was a really great one! We played some great games, sang new songs and ate delicious lentil and carrot soup. You can find more about our Lickety food in here! Ruby introduced us to her friend Joe this week. We found out just how busy he is and how hard he works in his Button Factory. By the end of the song, we all felt like we had been working in the factory too! To refresh ourselves after such hard work, we flew high above Ruchill and high above Glasgow, flying high in the sky in our different coloured balloons! The choosing of colours provided the group with lots to talk about after the session had finished, with one parent saying: "You have to think outside the box, it's good, they put you on the spot. I was gonna say Silver and then she said it so I wanted to mix it up so I just came out with blue!” We think both silver and blue are great choices! We travelled all over in our balloons, from waving to the lions in Edinburgh zoo to a near erupting volcano and a fleet of multi-coloured boats bobbing along the Clyde. We all got dressed up and went to meet some scary wolves deep in the forest. Our [...]

Big Porridge & Play Gorbals Week 2

2022-07-13T15:57:54+00:00

9th May 2019 We returned to the St Francis Community Centre for our second BIG Porridge and Play Glasgow session in the Gorbals where we visited the tropical forests of India, met people with some strange bed-time habits and were chased by a scary witch. With 13 families made up of new and returning members of the Children and Families Network, we had a fantastic session with all participating in our adventures. One parent exclaiming after the session, “they’re so happy!” Ruby and Hilde were joined by Jack and our new Lickety Volunteer Asem. We all enjoyed meeting the group again and playing and singing together! The Funky Chicken introduced us to some of his new friends, we met the fancy swan, the roaring tiger, the purring cat, the rainbow unicorn and the oinking pig! We also met some of Ruby’s friends! They all had one thing in common, some very very strange sleeping habits! One of her friends goes to sleep with a Jelly on His Head and another of her friends goes to sleep with Ice-Cream in her ears! We all wondered how they get to sleep at night! We travelled around the world for the first time leaving the St Francis Centre in our Magic Ball arriving in a very hot tropical forest in India! We trekked our way through the dark forest with torches and [...]

2022-07-13T16:02:54+00:00

8th May 2019 We had our second BIG Porridge & Play Glasgow session in Whiteinch and what a session it was, with 14 families and 43 people attending altogether! We travelled around the world to the coasts of Portugal in the magic ball, we danced the Ickerickeroo and met some very scary witches! We played Witches Fingers for the first time and the group really loved this game! We had some very convincing and scary witches who all drank the same bottle of poison! Witches Fraser, Suzy and Frankey were fantastic and really got into their witch characters! We met some of the Funky Chicken’s funny friends including the Slippery Snake, the Creepy Spider, the Black Dinosaur and the Silly Cat! We wonder if we’ll meet any more of his band of merry animals over the next few weeks? Ruby asked us to name all of our different body parts, but we couldn’t name any of them correctly! She had some very different names for hers, telling us all about the old Scots words for our body parts as we danced and sang the Ickerickeroo. The group now knows all about our brainboxer, our e-peepers and our bread basket! We also took a trip in the Magic Ball for the first time. We travelled to the windy coastline of Portugal where we looked over the edge of a very [...]

2022-07-14T09:27:15+00:00

4th May 2019 Our second Big Porridge & Play session at Ruchill saw us travel around the world, meet a shy sheep and got us to know some old Scots words for the different parts of our body. With our families getting to know us and each other better, not to mention the Licketyspit songs and games, we had a fantastic session playing and eating together. Our sweet potato and carrot soup, a favourite from last year, returned and again proved very popular! We played Witches Fingers for the first time which was a real highlight for the group. Witch Maureen was particularly brilliant and very frightening and we all cackled the witches cackle mwahahaha! The Funky Chicken continued to introduce us to more of his friends and we met a very shy sheep, a blowing elephant,  and a roaring panda! We danced the Ickerickeroo and now the group knows all about our brainboxer, our teeth-gnashers and our bread basket! We travelled around the world for the first time in the Magic Ball! We first landed deep in the rainforest trekking our way out to a beautiful Greek beach. At the beach, we went swimming deep beneath the waves and met the strange and wonderful Sea Monster. The Monster took us into her cave with the scary bats and she gave us a present, a glowing bracelet, to find [...]

Big Porridge & Play Gorbals Week 1

2022-07-13T15:58:03+00:00

2nd May 2019 Our first Big Porridge & Play session in the Gorbals was a lovely coming-together of new and familiar faces in the St Francis Community Centre. 35 participants joined us, with several families from St Francis Nursery where we did a taster session the day before, and lots of local families from our Children & Families Network. We played lots of Lickety Playcard games and met the Fancy Peacock, the White Hampster and the Funky Horse in the Funky Chicken! In Balloons we saw the pacific ocean, a green pirate ship and a Brachiosaurus, the river Clyde and a door that went to a special place... Dressing up was a highlight, followed by Pirates - with a couple of hearty captains and Monsters Footsteps was very popular, appearing in lots of drawings. We had a Grandma who lived in a Yellow Cave and another who lived in a Golden Castle and grew tomatoes and carrots in her garden! We had a delicious lentil, carrot and leek soup, fruit and crusty bread, and ended the session with Reflective Drawing and the Licketyspit Gallery, where children and parent artists presented their work and shared what they liked most about the session! Even the youngest participants came up to share their detailed drawings and there was a lovely focus during the Gallery. You can find out more about our food [...]

2022-07-13T16:02:40+00:00

1st May 2019 Our first Big Porridge & Play session in Whiteinch this year was absolutely packed - with 14 families and 50 people in total! It was great to see some families from last year, as well as a few families we had met at the Whiteinch Nursery Spring Tea the week before - and lots more new local families. Virginia, Ruby, Jack and Hilde were joined by our new Lickety Volunteer Saliha, and our Children & Families Network Producer Rita was there to meet everyone too. We had a vivacious and energetic play session in the Children's Library at Whiteinch - meeting the Funky Chicken and his friends, flying off in our Balloons and seeing dragons, dinosaurs and a volcano, and turning into marvellous creeping trees in Monsters' Footsteps! There was some fantastic dressing up, especially from the parents and grandparents. This was a moment that really helped everyone relax and set their imaginations free, as we saw in the hilarious and highly expressive Monster faces! We had a delicious lentil, carrot and leek soup made by Saliha, delicious fruit and crusty bread, and ended the session with Reflective Drawing and the Licketyspit Gallery, with great listening and appreciation of all the artists, despite some of the younger children losing concentration a little. You can find out more about our food in the Lickety Kitchen and find [...]
