Oakwood LicketyLeap

2021-06-15T13:48:41+00:00

In Autumn Term 2018/19, 30 more children from Oakwood P1, P2 and P3 took part in LicketyLeap (The Story of Margaret & Margaret). In Session One, they travelled through the bog, over the sea, into the cave and up the mountain with Worried Margaret and Bold Margaret, to find their Heart's Desires! In Session Two, the children reenacted the whole story with the actor-pedagogues, using only a blanket. It's always incredible to see how much they remember and the increase in confidence to talk to us and share thoughts and ideas after Session One. Later in Session Two, parents and carers were invited to watch the video of the first session and some live reenactments of parts of the story by their children. It's so significant for the children to share this significant experience with the adults in their life and it's great to chat to parents and carers about the impact they think LicketyLeap has had on their child, and tell them more about why we do it.

Bookplay at Canal View Nursery

2020-01-31T16:31:03+00:00

We had a great time catching up with Canal View Nursery families and playing the Licketyspit games again at Bookplay this term. We also explored the wonderful story of "Angelo" and his family of circus performers - and created some circus acts of our own! It was great to hear that so many families have been playing the Lickety Playcard games at home and to have so many parents and carers getting involved in creating the group circus acts and supporting all the children - as well as their own - alongside our actor-pedagogues and nursery staff. Don't forget to sign up to our Children & Families Network, if you haven't already, to find out about more Lickety-play opportunities around Edinburgh. "It’s my mummy. She’s swimming in the sea. This is the building. That was the sky and then it turned into the sea." Child, Reflective Drawing "The water, a boat with a person on it. There’s a tree with some apples on. There’s a swing, a baby bird in a nest and some food for the birds" Child, Reflective Drawing "She likes the Grandma song so she gets me to sing that song in the house" Mum I wish I could go there Margaret & Margaret Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicing elit, sed do... Ibrox Storyplay Celebration Assembly

2020-01-31T16:31:13+00:00

We rounded off a fantastic five-week Storyplay Residency at Ibrox Primary and Nursery with a joyous whole-school assembly. 10 parents and carers joined us and joined in with all the pupils and teachers in Big as a Bear led by Taz, Funky Chicken led by Primary 3, Grandma Grandma led by Primary 5, In the Way of the Word led by Primary 7 and Miss Mary Mac led by Primary 6! It was brilliant to see the older children dressed up and setting a wonderful example of exuberant imaginary play for the rest of the school and the nursery, and it was clear how much they were entertaining each other and enjoying the relaxed "ceilidh-style" sharing of some of the Storyplay games, rhymes and songs. We were also thrilled to have our Licketyspit Ambassador Tam Baillie talk to everyone about the importance of Children's Rights and the United Nationals Convention of the Rights of the Child. Thanks to all the parents who came along and joined in too! If you haven't done so yet, you can sign up to our Children and Families Network to find out about other Licketyspit projects around Glasgow. We've really enjoyed working with everyone at Ibrox and hope to be back soon. Look at the other blog entries on the Ibrox Storyplay page to see more of what we did during the first Storyplay Residency, and [...]

Ibrox Storyplay Week 3

2020-01-31T16:31:43+00:00

Week 3 Storyplay Residency at Ibrox Primary It was great to be back at Ibrox Primary for a third round of Storyplay! We worked with the Nursery for the first time, as well as Primary 7 who dressed up to play a marvellous Wink Murder. Taz popped into several classes for a Session 2 catch up. We played a few more games and it was brilliant to see how much everyone remembered and hear more of your creative ideas for imaginary play and stories. Looking forward to coming back for the Celebration Assembly on March 12th!

Wink Murder in the Enchanted Forest

2020-01-31T16:32:34+00:00

20th February 2019 Wink Murder, What Are You Doing, and how to explain the Licketyspit games. We were visited by several Detectives from far away places in Wink Murder today. Detective Scott came all the way from America, and Detective Carmen came from Japan! One of our dinner parties was in an Enchanted Forest, where an owl flew in and dropped a Magic Ring that made us sing when we tried it on. Then a knife appeared under a Red Rock, and we knew something was amiss. Sure enough, people started dying left right and centre, before the Detective found the Murderer!
