Big Porridge & Play Whiteinch Week 1

2022-07-13T16:02:40+00:00

1st May 2019 Our first Big Porridge & Play session in Whiteinch this year was absolutely packed - with 14 families and 50 people in total! It was great to see some families from last year, as well as a few families we had met at the Whiteinch Nursery Spring Tea the week before - and lots more new local families. Virginia, Ruby, Jack and Hilde were joined by our new Lickety Volunteer Saliha, and our Children & Families Network Producer Rita was there to meet everyone too. We had a vivacious and energetic play session in the Children's Library at Whiteinch - meeting the Funky Chicken and his friends, flying off in our Balloons and seeing dragons, dinosaurs and a volcano, and turning into marvellous creeping trees in Monsters' Footsteps! There was some fantastic dressing up, especially from the parents and grandparents. This was a moment that really helped everyone relax and set their imaginations free, as we saw in the hilarious and highly expressive Monster faces! We had a delicious lentil, carrot and leek soup made by Saliha, delicious fruit and crusty bread, and ended the session with Reflective Drawing and the Licketyspit Gallery, with great listening and appreciation of all the artists, despite some of the younger children losing concentration a little. Big Porridge & Play Ruchill Week 1

2022-07-13T15:55:37+00:00

27th April 2019 Our first Big Porridge & Play session at Ruchill was wonderful - with a really buzzing atmosphere! We had a group of over 50 participants made up of current Children & Families Network families and new families at the Ruchill Community Centre. Lots of people came early, with one parent saying they couldn't wait "because they were just so excited!" We played lots of Lickety Playcard games - made ourselves as Big As A Bear, got to know the Funky Chicken and his friends, wriggled like a Grandma and flew off in our Balloons, high above Glasgow, and saw furry rabbits, the Eiffel tower and people playing in the park! One mum told us how much she loved the Balloons game - she'd never done anything like it! Monsters Footsteps was another highlight - we dressed up and crept towards a couple of different Grandmas. We had a delicious lentil, carrot and leek soup and ended the session with Reflective Drawing and the Licketyspit Gallery, where children and parent artists presented their work and shared what they liked most about the session! You can find out more about our food in the Lickety Kitchen. You can find your artwork below... What you said... P6 Play Champions Assembly

2019-03-28T12:32:47+00:00

Term 2 Celebration Assembly - P6 Story Performances 22nd March The intense creative work of the P6A and P6B Playground Play Champions over the last few weeks paid off on Friday. when they shared their wonderful stories at the Storyplay Term 2 Celebration Assembly. These stories were created by the pupils with Ruby, Effie and Amy from Licketyspit. They then turned them into short performances, and after a few short rehearsals, shared these with the rest of the school. We were so impressed by everyone who got up on stage to perform, even if they had felt nervous beforehand. Having developed Granny Characters using the Lickety Playcard games last term, and putting these characters into different scenarios in In the Way of the Word and What Are You Doing? earlier this term, the P6s brought all of their imaginary play ideas together in these stories. Thank you all for showing everyone in the school where imaginary play can take you. The games, rhymes and songs of the Lickety Playcards are just the beginning  - through Storyplay you can be anyone, go anywhere, do anything!  P6 Stories The Story of Manny and George and Catbug P6B Maria the Angel and the Fishermen P6B Bob the Marshmallow P6B Shrek and the Egg P6A The Wolf P6A Sans the Skeleton and Polly the Pug P6A

Active Grannies – Playground Play

2019-03-25T18:01:07+00:00

'In the Way of the Word' - Active Grannies! 31st Jan We had a great time returning to our Granny characters this week with P6. We created these characters in the first term and introduced them to the whole school at the Celebration Assembly in November 2018. This week, we played 'In the Way of the Word' - dressed up as our Granny characters! Then everyone drew and wrote about their character and what they might have been doing later on...

Bookplay at Canal View Nursery

2020-01-31T16:31:03+00:00

We had a great time catching up with Canal View Nursery families and playing the Licketyspit games again at Bookplay this term. We also explored the wonderful story of "Angelo" and his family of circus performers - and created some circus acts of our own! It was great to hear that so many families have been playing the Lickety Playcard games at home and to have so many parents and carers getting involved in creating the group circus acts and supporting all the children - as well as their own - alongside our actor-pedagogues and nursery staff. Don't forget to sign up to our Children & Families Network, if you haven't already, to find out about more Lickety-play opportunities around Edinburgh. "It’s my mummy. She’s swimming in the sea. This is the building. That was the sky and then it turned into the sea." Child, Reflective Drawing "The water, a boat with a person on it. There’s a tree with some apples on. There’s a swing, a baby bird in a nest and some food for the birds" Child, Reflective Drawing "She likes the Grandma song so she gets me to sing that song in the house" Mum I wish I could go there Margaret & Margaret Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicing elit, sed do...
