Welcome to the Storyplay For The Planet blog, where we share the stories of all the adventures we've had! Get in touch to find out how to join. We went to Bellrock Nursery on Friday 3rd December for the first session of our Storyplay for the Planet!  Everyone was ready to get stuck in and play all the games with us, many having learnt some of the games from their teacher, Storyplay Champion Josephine. Our extraordinary 3-5 year-olds were quickly warmed up with Big As A Bear, exploring some incredible wildlife creates and becoming expressive characters. It was such a riot with lots of laughter! It quickly became a favourite game for some. We then had a round of Funky Chicken, where we met Reise and Gracie's Spotty Giraffe, the Brown & White Dog, Mini Dog, the Dancing Hippo from our excellent teacher Josephine, the Silly Bunny and the Happy Sheep! We then played Flying Balloons. We saw a tiny door below us and Reise saw Santa coming out of the door! Harlow saw Santa leaving on his sleigh and Sarah saw her Mum. We then saw the sea...and flew down and swam in it!  We saw lots of fish, sharks and piranas. We surfed and swam! Several children turned into sharks who we fed [...]

Welcome to the Storyplay For The Planet blog, where we share the stories of all the adventures we've had! Get in touch to find out how to join. We were back at Cranhill Primary on Friday 26th November for our second Storyplay for the Planet!  We played Big as a Bear and Funky Chicken, where we met the Cheeky Monkey, Snapping Alligator and Funky Flamingo. It was lovely to see so many animals who make up our wonderful environment brought to life. All of whom are worth protecting! Let's Bake a Cake...for the Earth! We then decided to make a cake for the earth with Let's Bake a Cake For The Earth, where we put lots of ingredients for the planet as well as the yummy (and not so yummy) things we love to have in our imaginary cakes. This included hope, small trees, bees, honey, many different coloured icing and water which we put into a giant bowl and stirred until the cake was ready to put in the oven. We all helped lift it in and Marcelo opened the oven door, Mason pressed the button and.....5....4....3....2...1! Bing bing bing! Once we had decorated the cake and sang happy birthday to the planet, we all had a piece and tasted lots [...]

Did you know that you can make a monster out of just about anything? A bottle cap can make a teeny tiny monster! A wooden spoon can make a super cool medium size monster! A cushion or a mop can make a brilliant really huge monster!! For our final week we we were joined by the brilliant Catherine Lindow, an illustrator and librarian who led a workshop on all things MONSTERS!!! Well… it looks like we have come to the end of this block of Story Play City & Family Art Voyage! And what an adventure it has been! A completely brilliant 9 WEEKS of playing, creativity, stories and fun! We worked FAST and ROUGH in this workshop, leaping around to find our objects as soon as we heard the MONSTER FOOTSTEPS STOMP!!! So instead of dressing up ourselves, Catherine taught us how to dress up our objects, and turn them into wonderful monsters!! Princess used a rubber and some tissue! Temi & Fuad stuck pencils into potatoes! Amir made a snake monster out of foam and tape! Iona made a tiny [...]

National Lottery Birthday Film

2021-11-26T11:46:55+00:00

26th November 2021 This month we had a fantastic Porridge & Play session at our home in Community Central Halls - CCH, with families who've been playing with us online since last year! We were also joined by Sanjeev Kholi and our funder the National Lottery who wanted to make a short film about Porridge & Play. The National Lottery Community Fund Scotland has funded Big Porridge & Play Glasgow since 2017 and last year helped us run sessions online all year, keeping our Children & Families Network connected & playing together throughout the challenges of the pandemic. Even though we were at home, in our imaginations we went everywhere! It was great to meet up in person together with the Funky Chicken, the Swimming Mermaid, the Flying Dinosaur and the Wobbly Penguin. We flew to space in our balloons, introduced the crew to Grandma and even saw some rainbow unicorns! The National Lottery collaborated with Joe Media for their 27th birthday to make a series of films about projects they support. 2021-11-24T13:07:54+00:00

Welcome to the Porridge & Play Online blog, where we share the stories of all the adventures we've had during our virtual play sessions on Zoom! Get in touch to find out how to join. We flew with the Hawk over the whole world!   We met the peacock, the robin and the golden bird!   We told wee Hoolet just to be himself!   And we hoot hoot hooted like owls ourselves! This week we were welcomed into Hamish’s Hoose for a nice wee time! And what an AMAZING time we had! We learnt the ancient story of the Hoolet, which is the Scots word for an OWL. In the story the wee owl grows into a beautiful bird, and learns that being beautiful is just about being who you are! You all had fantastic ideas throughout the story of the Hoolet!! YOUR IDEAS FOR THE STORY Our Adventures with the Hoolit ‘I think he should maybe be happy about himself the way he was born because everyone’s born different and not ugly.’ ‘The hawk might see trees but they might look like bushes because you can’t see the tree trunks.’ ‘They could tell Hoolit he was being a bit mean and say sorry or something?’ ‘They [...]

Storyplay for the Planet

2021-11-09T10:57:08+00:00

Licketyspit wants to spark a children’s rights-based play revolution! Storyplay for the Planet is part of our wider work in Glasgow, the first Storyplay City! See Big Porridge & Play and Storyplay City to find out what else we're doing nearby. What is Storyplay for the Planet? A series of Storyplay & Have Your Say Through Play sessions for families with 3-12 year olds in East Centre Ward. Licketyspit will deliver sessions in schools, nurseries and online for communities across the East Centre Ward to support confidence, parental engagement, relationships and children’s rights. The school groups will receive an introductory Storyplay session, followed by a Have your Say Through Play session to support the children to express their thoughts, feelings & ideas about Climate Change using imaginary play. These sessions will be a chance for families to explore the issue of climate change and share their feelings about it creatively, elevating children's voices and demonstrating the power of imagination to find solutions to the greatest collective challenge of our time! We might encounter melting polar ice, or deforestation in Brazil, put a stop to heavy traffic in Cranhill or plant trees in Barlanark. The adventure will present challenges and as a group we’ll overcome them using the power of our collective imagination! We might end up in a river clogged with rubbish, or slipping [...]
