Whiteinch Blog! Love letters, Chefs, a massive birthday cake & a feast! Our last session at Whiteinch Library felt like a great big party and although everyone was a bit sad that it was the last one of this year we all cheered up very quickly with a Dancing Warm up. We decided to send Letters to our Loves! But we kept dropping them! and then we had to try and guess WHO had picked the letter up and put it in their pocket?! It was hilarious! We dressed up today as Chef’s from around the World so that we could make a very special Birthday Cake for Taz’s neighbour Fred, who apparently is very very old… Thankfully we had a very colourful array of international Chef’s giving Taz a helping hand! There was Chef Amjad who makes fried chicken and ketchup and comes from Iran, Chef Deon who comes from France & America and makes Spiderman pizza and Spiderman hot dogs. Also, there was Chef Casey – he makes cake with meatballs and tomato sauce and Chef Nina who comes from the ground! - ‘I dug myself up with a spoon!’ There was Chef Grace who makes princess pizza and Chef Mohammad from Pakistan who makes chicken and ketchup. From Poland we had Chef Special, she makes strawberries and cream and Ninja Chef – ‘I [...]

Porridge & Play Whiteinch Week 3

2024-09-20T10:08:34+00:00

Whiteinch Blog! A Witchy Porridge & Storyplay afternoon at Whiteinch Library! Whiteinch Library felt very witchy today as the brilliant librarians had selected a bunch of books for us about magic, fanatic creatures, werewolves, vampires, monsters and of course witches! Before we kicked off our Storyplay, Andre told us about Fred, Grace, John and Bella Spears who are all characters in the brilliant song ‘Jelly On His Head’ and then for our warm up today we gave ‘Hello! My Name is Joe’ a go! We all felt how poor Joe must feel after a long day of work at the Button Factory! Since mystery and magic was in the air we all dressed up as Witches and attended a mad Witches Convention where a crew from Witchy TV was interviewing those in attendance. Amir became Oversized Witch and told the interviewer that his favourite potion is a powerful one but it’s recipe is a secret… Shhhh! Nico became Witchy Lila and explained that she lives in a giant castle with animals and witches. Her fave potion is the Sword Potion which makes you fall sleep for 1 night and when you wake up you turn into a melon. He he he! Sofia became Sassy Witch and her favourite potion turns people into a giant nose! Achoo! And Witchy Andre taught every other Witch how to make [...]

What a hoot! Now in this forest we discovered there were lots of Wolves! There was Nico Flower who lives underground with 3 Wolfy Cubs! There was Wolfy Bad-Tree who stands up in a tree! Wolfy Muhammad lives in the ground by himself, Wolfy Amjad (a were-wolf!) lives in a mansion, Wolf Berry lives in a shop selling food and Wolves Freya and Milad live in houses! The only Forest Creatures who know the time are the Wolves - because they all have a wonderful watch! Wolfy Bad-Tree got his from the garbage! Wolfy Nina got hers in a very expensive shop, Wolfy Mohammad has a Rolex , Wolf Berry's watch is silver and Wolf Cole has an amazing gold and black watch! This means that all the other forest creatures can only find out what the time is by asking - What's the Time Mr Wolf? BUT!!! They have to be [...]

A Very Hungry Giant in Witchland!

2023-11-07T16:03:19+00:00

Wednesday 1st November 2023 We had an incredible time with our Whiteinch Library families at our Spookiest Porridge & Play Whiteinch session yet! And it was great to be joined by some new faces too! To set the tone for a spooky Storyplay adventure Steven read the Wee Witches poem by our very own Virginia! Sitting in our circle we all paused to listen…   “What do you think a witch is like? Does a witch ride a broomstick or ride on a bike? Does a witch wear gold? Or red, or black?.... ..... How would like a witch to be? Is it like her or is it like me.” With that final question we found ourselves thinking… well... the witches could be...like all of us? In fact, we could all be whatever witches we want to be... Let's... DRESS UP AS WITCHES!!! GREAT IDEAA!!!! Super great in fact because at Licketyspit we know that dressing up and getting into character is something we can ALL do, all we need is a bag of old clothes and our imaginations to transform into whatever our Witchy hearts and minds desire!! So, with us all dressed up it was time to meet some new Witchy friends! Woosh round the room into the magic circle we met Witch Bronwyn who lives in the clouds, Witch Amjad who lives on the moon. [...]

Let’s bake a cake with expired hot dog shoes!

2023-10-31T13:13:39+00:00

Wednesday 25th October 2023 We LOVE food at Whiteinch Library Porridge & Play! We love to EAT it, MAKE it and even WEAR IT! Our Whiteinch friends had a grand time at Porridge & Play this week exploring all things foodie… We made a fab MUCKY BREW! We got to make a fantastic mess wearing all sorts of imaginary food... Egg, flour, expired hot dogs for shoes, last week’s chocolate candy in your ears, donuts on your face… The MUCKY BREW can go on forever because at the end, when you are all messy and sticky you can just hop in the shower and wash yourself to the tune of ‘The Washing Song!’ We BAKED A CAKE with the input of our fantastic Whiteinch Chefs who are packed full of pioneering culinary ideas! The result was OUT OF THIS WORLD! Check out these incredible ingredients: Baking soda, cow’s milk , 3 eggs, flour, chocolate, 1 glass of sugar, baking powder, fish, 3 drops of strawberry, a smelly sock, lemon zest, mango, 30% baking soda, roses, a strawberry donut, 3 packets of oreos and a rainbow lassoed out of the sky! We stirred in EVERYTHING, baked it in the oven and had a great tasting session and chat about our edible creation. And of course we ATE the lovely Porridge & Play spread like we do in every session [...]

Monday 27th March Thanks to the National Lottery Community Fund, Licketyspit’s Porridge & Play sessions will be back in 6 Glasgow communities and online for 2023/24. Now in its 7th year, Big Porridge & Play Glasgow will take place in Govan, Maryhill, Whiteinch and online, as well as in Bridgeton, Castlemilk & Cranhill. We all really enjoy this. I have met new friends, our language is better because of this” “Like nothing else we do. Great early drama/improvisation. Lots of imagination. Inclusive and child led!” “You won’t be alone here. I’ll be your friend” “Don’t know where we’d be without this. A Week 6 Whiteinch Celebration!

2022-11-23T10:38:42+00:00

Wednesday 16th November 2022 This week we had our fabulous celebration! It was so much much fun getting dressed up as forest animals! We had lots of birds with one from the bird cave, a bear, a bat and a fox and also some unknown animals from unknown places. The Magic Ball was nowhere to be found until luckily Zofia found it and we climbed inside, zipped ourselves in and decided where we might go? Well, we ended up in a beautiful forest where the bird cave was and we started looking around for wolves until all of a sudden there was a mighty howling and we found two actual wolves! The only problem was, we couldn’t understand them, so Aseel and Ellie did a great job of communicating with them, because we soon discovered that the wolves were hungry and needed some food. We were so glad they were friendly wolves and didn’t want to eat us, so we happily fed them! After a while the biggest wolf started drawing a picture in the air and we wondered what he was trying to tell us, then suddenly, we realised he was drawing a clock-face and he just wanted to play his favourite game, which  was “What’s The Time Mr Wolf?" Well, we didn’t need to be asked  twice, we all love that game and were happy [...]
