Porridge & Play Castlemilk Week 4

Our final session of this block's Porridge & Play Castlemilk 2024

Castlemilk Blog!

A massive circle, love letters, Chefs & a Cake good enough to get a job in a kitchen!

What a time we’ve had with our Castlemilk Library friends the last 4 weeks at Porridge & Play. This bunch of grown-ups and children really take play very seriously and with exquisite hilarity.

At our last Porridge & Play at Castlemilk Library the circle was huge and made by very smiley and excited people. We had a great Dancing Warm Up with everyone throwing very cool shapes!

Have you played ‘Letter to my Love’ before? Andre showed us all how to play this fun game that you could play with as many people as you like! It’s about guessing and tricking and also about singing and skipping!

We dressed up as very special Chefs who had different cooking specialities!

Virginia became Chef Baloney who cooks the best macaroni!

Claire was Chef Ratatouille, and she makes bread baguettes!

Ibrahim became Italian Ibrahim Chef and he cooks pizza Mamma Mia!

Darragh was Mystery Chef who makes secret recipes!

Frasier became Chef Frasier and he bakes the best cookies!

Aimee was Cheeky Chop Chef who makes fabulous sausages!

David became Small Shirt Chef and he cooks chips!

Zara was Farrow Chef and she cooks noodles!

Danyal became Chef Albert who bakes cupcakes!

Brian was Chef Giuseppe and he cooks lasagne!

Abu became Chef Abu who makes pasta!

Taz was Chef Tortilla who was very grumpy!

And Sarah was Sous Chef and was in a lot of trouble…

Sous Chef was under a lot of pressure at Chef Tortilla’s kitchen and had to prove to her grumpy boss that she was worthy of her sous chef job! A sous chef is the second in command in a kitchen so…a pretty important job!

Our generous Castlemilk Chefs agreed to help Sous Chef bake a cake so good that it would help her keep her job. What you would call a recipe for success!

Ingredients:

strawberries

vanilla ice cream

10 eggs

20 choc cookies

chopped banana

chocolate spread

Marshmallows

strawberry icing

strawberry jam

rainbow sweeties

oil & sugar

white Hershels & Oreos

flour

rainbow chocolate strawberries

salt & sugar powder

tiger milk

oranges

a squeeze of lemon

flowers

croissants

sprinkle of milk

vanilla icing

Decorated with a cherry on top, chocolate sprinkles, strawberries, croissant crumbs and chocolate icing.

Well, it absolutely worked!! The cake was so scrumptious that all the chefs got offered a job at Chef Tortilla’s Kitchen! HUZZAH!!!

Our Castlemilk friends then created fabulous Reflective Drawings and shared a lovely meal and everyone brought sweet treats to share with each other.

The Licketyspit Art Gallery was fascinating and everyone celebrated each other’s creativity and we had book reviews from Ibrahim, Zara, Carina, Jessica & Poppy.

Anne Marie the librarian joined our circle for the Magic Clap and told us how they’d love to keep seeing all the families enjoying the library. She gave everyone a colouring in sheet of beautiful patterns that you can see at Glasgow’s Mitchell Library in a famous carpet they have there. If you have never visited the Mitchell Library we highly recommend! The Mitchell Library is a huge public library in Charing Cross and it’s the biggest public reference library in Europe. How lucky are we to live in Glasgow!

What a fantastic last Porridge & Play at Castlemilk Library! We can’t wait to see all our friends again soon but in the meantime keep playing and using your incredible imaginations!

We almost always do ‘Reflective drawing’ at the end of a Storyplay session. It’s nice to relax and draw & think about what we’ve all done & how we feel about it.

Reflective drawing isn’t about doing a ‘good’ drawing – it’s about drawing whatever comes into your head when you think about what you’ve just done.

But as you draw you realise more about what you thought or imagined in the session. And it’s great to share that with everyone & hear what they thought! So many things go on in Storyplay!

Here are our Reflective Drawings from this week! Below is some of what we said!

READ SOME OF THE ARTIST’S REFLECTIONS FROM THE LICKETY ART GALLERY:

I made a cake and I think my Dad made this. That is me surrounded by cupcakes. I like blue flavour, white flavour. The white Frosting. Also rainbow one. Enjoyed dressing up.

Danyal,
This is the flower and the tiger milk, the banana, the strawberry and cherry and the marshmallow. Chef Potter is magic. Enjoyed making the cake!

Awaad,
This is jam, the letter and this is me wearing my chef costume. The cake. Chef Poppy. Enjoyed drawing!
