Porridge & Play Castlemilk Week 1

Porridge & Play Castlemilk 2024

Castlemilk Blog!

Big Porridge & Play Castlemilk

Is back! We were thrilled to meet eightnew families and to see our old friends Mel, Avery & Freya, Ingrid & jese. So with the Licketyspit actor-pedagogues, Sarah, Andre, Steven & Virginia we were 26 – a good number for a circle where You can see Everyone & Everyone can see you, in Castlemilk Library!

Andre led our warm-up we were:

To warm up we made ourselves as –

Big as a Bear &

as Fast as a Hare.

As strong as an Ox &

as Sneaky as a Fox,

As soft as a Cat &

As Nibbly as a Rat!

Fly high as a Bird,

Flying Up,

Flying Down,

Swooping,

Gliding,

Round & Round,

Till you land on your Nest!

have a little Rest!

what’s this I have found?

It’s hard & it’s round…

it’s an EGG!

An Egg I have found!

An egg, an egg,

so BIG and so ROUND!

it Wibbles,

it Wobbles

and suddenly

CRACK!

A Beak,

two wings?

well fancy that!

Out pops a bird

with a Quack, quack, quack!

Then we got to know The Funky Chicken & the Naughty Seagull & we met some surprising guests like Frazers Crazy Gorilla, Jessica’s Crazt sausage dog. max’s Swimming TRex. Lynne’s Naughty Elephant. Poppys Dancing puppy, Ingrids Hungry Lion & Jackie’s Crazy Giraffe -to name a few! – before Mel’s Dying Fly!

Everyone had a different colour balloon. We blew them up & we all flew high high in the sky over Castlemilk. We were so high the trees looked like Broccoli! And the people like ants!! We saw so many things – we even flew down to get some icecreams! Then we flew above the whole world! We saw a giant snowman, a polar bear, the Disneyland funfair, forests & the sea!!

Sarah taught us Grandma Grandma & then Andre brough out the Dressing Up bag!

At Licketyspit we collect old clothes we can make into millions of different costumes! A dress can become a cloak, or new hair! Or a chefs apron or a monkeys tail! The great thing about Storyplay is that we realise we can be anyone, do anything & go anywhere! (& we do!)

We all dressed up as marvelous Grannies & we played Monsters Footsteps! Where the trees turn into monsters and creep up on the granny whenever she goes into her kitchen for breakfast! But when she hears them & turns round – all she can see is trees! But trees strangely closer to her house!

Then everyone did wonderful Reflective Drawings About the session before we had our tea round the table of bread, cheese & eggs, tomatoes, watercress, pineapple, watermelon, tangerines, bananas, pears & strawberries! And a nice chat!

And everyone chose books that Jamie & Rachel at the library had found for us about places we saw from our Flying Balloons! If you’d like to next week you can tell us about the book you took incase someone what would like to take it home. Every week we will have different books to choose about things in our games!

Then Sarah & Andre did the Gallery and everyond told us about what they’d most enjoyed about todays adventures & showed their pictures.(you can see some here! We will put different people s pictures up on the blog each week)

We met Jamie from the library who welcomed us all and told us about other things you can do at the library aswell as borrowing books! Like Lego & drawing.

Altogether it was really fun today & we can’t wait to see you all again next Thursday at 4 O’clock ’

Have a great weekend! Remember you can always find a balloon in your pocket for a new adventure!

Love from

Sarah, Andre, Steven & Virginia

We almost always do ‘Reflective drawing’ at the end of a Storyplay session. It’s nice to relax and draw & think about what we’ve all done & how we feel about it.

Reflective drawing isn’t about doing a ‘good’ drawing – it’s about drawing whatever comes into your head when you think about what you’ve just done.

But as you draw you realise more about what you thought or imagined in the session. And it’s great to share that with everyone & hear what they thought! So many things go on in Storyplay!

Here are our Reflective Drawings from this week!
