Have Your Say Through Play
Have Your Say Through Play is a children’s human rights-based, fun way to support children under-twelve to explore and share their thoughts, feelings and ideas through Lickety Playcard Play.
This project was first developed with our Children & Families Network in September 2020, as a way to consult children about the Covid-19 pandemic.
We have also held sessions on children’s rights as part of the UNCRC (Incorporation) (Scotland) Bill consultation, for the Scottish Parliament, on the Scottish Government’s Play Strategy review, and for the Collective Leadership Group, on families experiences of the pandemic. Links to these reports are below.
Project Timeline

What did you say?
Children should have the right to play, children should have the right to learn
In the Rights Cake I want to put the right to learning and maths and to learn a language.
People have a right to choose what they want to eat.
In the Rights Cake I want to put the right to be together!
I have the right as a child to be what I want to be in future! 🙂
“She should help me. I’ll be happy.”
How does it work?
In these sessions, we adapt some of our favourite Lickety Playcard games to explore important questions and issues that matter to children. Before the session, we always send out an information sheet with the topics or questions we will be exploring through play. This allows you to have a think about these things beforehand. We often have adult guests at the sessions who are children’s rights champions and want to know what you think!
The games we have adapted so far for Have Your Say Through Play include Flying Balloons, Sent a Letter to my Love, Whats the Time Mr Wolf, Let’s Bake a Cake. We also do Reflective Drawing.
