Porridge & Play Castlemilk Week 3

Porridge & Play Castlemilk 2024

Castlemilk Blog!

Do you know why circles are great?

Because when we are all in a circle, you can see everyone and everyone can see you and playing is best when we all do it TOGETHER!

We had a great big circle yesterday at Castlemilk Library as there were many of us ready to Storyplay at Porridge & Play!

We got our bodies, and our imaginations warmed up with ‘Hello My Name is Joe’, a fun rhyme that makes you move your body in ways you may not have done before!

And as our cool librarians had selected some spooky themed books for us to take out this week we decided to have a game of Dressing Up that fitted the theme… so…we became WITCHES at a Witches Convention! A couple of journalist Witches were there reporting on the Witchy World so we got to find out many things like witches’ names, their means of transport and their favourite food from the Witchy Buffet at the Convention:

Witchy Maria arrived on top of someone’s car and likes pizza!

Whichy White Coat came on a broom and likes chocolate cake!

Susanna was the Wicked Witch of The Milk and likes squashed frogs and came on a mop!

Abu was Spider Witch, came on a rainbow flying carpet and likes frogs!

Mystery Witch likes lizards!

Witchy Fraser came on a broom and likes chocolate cake!

Ibrahim was Ninja Witch, Superman brought him here and he likes cockroaches with poison!

Witchy Abdullah came in a flying car and likes purple snakes!

What a bunch of fun Witches!

The big event of the Convention was a Magic Ball adventure!

Now, if you’ve never had a Magic Ball adventure I urge you to find one because the Magic Ball takes you wherever you want to go…

‘Magic Ball Magic Ball takes us where we want to go!

Magic Ball Magic Ball takes us where we want to go!

Magic Ball Magic Ball takes us where we want to go! WHOOOOOOSH!’

Witchy Maria opened the Magic Ball’s big zipper and told us all that we had landed inside a banana! It was all squooshy and we ate our way about it until we bumped into an upset ex-Giant! I say ex-Giant because this Giant was very small!! They used to be a giant but now they were very wee and lamenting their giant days. Suddenly the giant asked us if we could make them a Growing Potion so we got to it.

In the cauldron we put snakes, flowers, cobras, a chair, and banana skins!

But our potion went a bit wrong, and it made the giant very hungry instead! So we fed them burgers and bananas and they ate so many that their tummy ached! So we gave them medicine and made them better.

Where to now? What about DogLand? Let’s go!DogLand is brilliant if you are a dog lover…and we are! We patted all these dogs that were walking about and then we met a big lovely waggy dog who loved chicken! And then we thought about a game we love called Funky Chicken so all of us Witches got into a circle and played a great game of Funky Chicken woohoo!

Time flies when you are having a Magic Ball adventure and we realised that it was time to get back to Castlemilk Library to do a bit of drawing and have our Picnic together.

After food we went into the Licketyspit Art Gallery where you not only get to see the Art, you also get to meet the Artists!

What a great Porridge & Play session! Also many of our friends took books out from the Library HURRAY!

Next week it will be our last session BUT we are soon to have a fantastic celebration!

See you next week!

We almost always do ‘Reflective drawing’ at the end of a Storyplay session. It’s nice to relax and draw & think about what we’ve all done & how we feel about it.

Reflective drawing isn’t about doing a ‘good’ drawing – it’s about drawing whatever comes into your head when you think about what you’ve just done.

But as you draw you realise more about what you thought or imagined in the session. And it’s great to share that with everyone & hear what they thought! So many things go on in Storyplay!

Here are our Reflective Drawings from this week! Below is some of what we said!

This is the big giant and that is the people watching him and these are the potions we made. It’s all of us. Inside the Magic Ball
