Monday 8th July
Making a fire & cooking on it with Andrea & The Online & Govan friends at Meadow & Children’s Wood!
Another Picnic & Play, another set of fabulous friends gathering for a Summer day out with Licketyspit. This year we are delighted to bring all our lovely families to the beautiful Meadow & Children’s Wood where we are hosting the Licketyspit Storyplay Festival in a few days!
This Saturday July 13th many Licketyspit families from all across Glasgow will come together for a day of imaginary play, food, fun and community! Licketyspit will welcome them all at the Meadow & Children’s Wood for a Storyplay extravaganza where everyone is host and participant at the same time because all we need to play is each other!
And so today our Online & Govan friends came along to Picnic & Play and enjoyed a warm and sunny Summer day with the Licketyspit team!
We had a great warm up and a round of ‘My Name Is & I Like’ with Glory & Goodness having us trying our best at cartwheeling! Then ‘Funky Chicken’ was full of very exuberant creatures doing very peculiar things!
It was easy to choose the right spot to place the Online & Govan Den for the upcoming Storyplay Festival this Saturday! This Den will be near the big Meadow and there may be some interesting characters there for everyone to meet…
After playing in the big circle we had our nice picnic and just after that Andrea – who takes care of the Meadow & the Children’s Wood – brought a big metal fire pit to teach us all how to safely make a fire to cook on it!!
We used flint to make sparks to start the fire with nice dry wood and some cotton wool soaked in vaseline. Andrea gave us a few simple rules to remember so we could enjoy sitting or kneeling around the fire and cooking on it safely.
Andrea had made a big bowl of bread dough. She twisted some around the sharp end of a stick and showed us how to bake it over the fire: too close to the flame and it would go black but hold it for long enough at the right height and it will bake into delicious bread!. We all got sticks and the Licketyspit bakery was in full swing!. By the time the marshmallows came out we were all experts!.
The fire excitement got everyone ready for a bit of self-portrait painting and the Online & Govan friends created beautiful bunting to decorate their Den for the festival.
What a fantastic day outdoors playing, running, climbing, meeting friends old and new, learning, cooking, painting and enjoying a bit of nature in our dear green city Glasgow!.
Hope to see you all soon on Saturday for an even bigger day out with more friends from Whiteinch, Castlemilk, Maryhill, Cranhill & Bridgeton!
Catch you at the Storyplay Festival!!!
