Love letters, Sandwich Island and a big whale!

Back again for week 2 of Porridge & Play Maryhill at Oakgrove Primary! We arrived and the sun was shining high in the sky – a sign of good things to come!

The families came and we said hello to the faces from last week and hello to some brand new faces as well! After a minute or so, we all played like old friends

First, we started with a dancing warm-up. There were lots of amazing moves – it was hard to keep up!! Next, we played ‘I sent a letter to my love’. We all sent letters to our loves but on the way we dropped them! Someone must have picked them up and put them in their pocket… It was – all of US!!

Next, we sang Grandma, Grandma which was so much fun that we all decided to dress up like grannies and then Sarah found something wonderful… a Magic Ball!!

Sarah said that if we got inside the magic ball, we could go anywhere in the world! So we all got inside, said the magic words and WOOSH! We were taken to a strange, far away place. We had no idea where we were but we could see sandwiches everywhere. Someone said it might be Sandwich Island – I think it’s near Belgium?! Anyway, soon after we arrived, a lovely lady came to help us. She was so helpful that she made us 1000 sandwiches!! Some tasted like coconut, strawberry and caramel, vanilla and chocolate, peanut butter and jelly, and cheese with butter. They were all so good. Well, one tasted bad – Muaz felt a bit sick afterwards. But we didn’t tell the lady since she was so nice to us! You can’t win them all.

Then, we went straight to the beach! We wanted to jump in the sea but we heard there were poisonous jellyfish nearby. Fortunately, we had a special Poisonous-Jellyfish-Detector which said it was fine. So, we went for a lovely swim in the ocean – Ayaan even rode on a dolphin! We also saw a pirate ship but it didn’t bother us so it was okay.

We were having so much fun we decided to go under the sea! It was so beautiful down there, full of aquatic life – fish, seaweed and even a whale! The whale was lovely but we couldn’t understand what he was saying. He said he was endangered, or in danger? I’m not sure but luckily Anelia could speak whale! The whale said he was scared because there were some sharks who wanted to eat him – he was in danger! So, we decided to help him by hiding the whale while the sharks swam past. We were all so brave!

Afterwards, the whale was really grateful. He couldn’t stop thanking us! We realised he was hungry so we fed him some of our leftover sandwiches. He loved them so much that he kept eating them up. I think he might’ve eaten a bit too much! Anyway, we said goodbye to the whale, got back into the magic ball and travelled all the way back to Oakgrove. It was a long journey so we had a great feast hen we got there! Steven had made delicious lentil, leek, and potato soup and there was a mountain of delicious fruit!

The Lickety Art Gallery this week was amazing – check out the wonderful artwork below!

We’re looking forward to playing some more wonderful games with you next week…. in The Children’s Wood!!

Remember – there’s no such thing as bad weather – only the wrong clothes! It its wet we can put up a big tarpaulin for the picnic and we’ll be sheltered by the trees in the wood! Please wear waterproof coats and shoes or boots and a HAT!

See you soon!
