We are getting ready to make our AllScot Playcards which will be inspired by all your games and Stories. The AllScot Playcards will be on display at our Storyplay Festival which will be happening on Saturday September 17th!

Block 3 Week 1 of Porridge & Play Cranhill

Thursday 4th August

A huge thank you to the families of Porridge & Play Cranhill for coming along and sharing your stories with us!

After sharing our delicious meal together we all had a great big dance and then we grabbed our Flying Balloons and started our adventure. We visited Temi, Tiwani, Fikayo & Folashade’s house first. We went into their kitchen and cooked a giant meal of spicy chicken and rice, luckily they had some yoghurt in the fridge as well so Fatima and Effie could eat the chicken without it burning their tongues! After we’d eaten we all sat together and sang some of their favourite songs – everyone joined in singing ‘wind the bobbin up, wind the bobbin up, pull, pull, clap clap clap’. They told us that they love singing rock and pop songs and sang a few more lines for us. It was great to hear everyone all singing together! Fikayo took us outside to show us the backyard, there was a swimming pool, a football net and bicycles to ride – we had such a brilliant time!

Then we got up in our balloons and flew away to Beauty & Genesis’ house! Genesis took us straight outside to see the backyard and told us that she loves camping there! Beauty told us she loves to barbeque there so we split into two teams. Half of us built amazing tents. It was hard work, so once we’d finished, we had a lie down inside the tents in our sleeping bags. The other half helped Beauty with the barbeque. We had burgers, hotdogs, chicken and fried rice! The chicken was marinated in turmeric, paprika, chilli and so much more. We left it to cook and when it was finished Genesis brought us all inside to eat on the very comfy sofa. We had so much delicious food on these visits! Beauty and Genesis told us that they loved spending time together eating food!

After that we flew all the way back to the Cranhill Development Trust and asked our families to make some art that shared what it’s like to be in their family! Malek, Ibrihim, Fatima and Aleena shared beautiful pictures of their house and their family and told us about how the celebrate Eid, and wear beautiful outfits called shalwar kameez. Malektold us that she loves spending time with her family because they are so unique!

Funky Chicken Fact: The Eid date is usually declared on the 29th day of the previous month when the moon is a present. However, if the Moon cannot be seen then Eid is celebrated on the following day.

Joy, Presley, Priscilla & Princewell shared their home with us too – they drew all the rooms in the house – including all the windows they have, and told us that they loved spending time eating together. They love African food and the most popular dish in their house is Banga Soup with Pounded Yam Swallow.

Thank you so much to everyone for sharing their families with us, it was great to get to know you all a little bit more!

I can’t wait for next week to find out what games all our grownups used to play when they were children!

 What is happening in block 3 for Porridge & Play Cranhill?

After such exciting trips out we are venturing back to our hub this July and August and will be coming together to create our new AllScot Playcards!

These Playcards will already be like the existing Licketyspit ones, but will be created with the games you play and played as children, and new ones we make up together! You’ll be able to see them – and play them –  at our Storyplay Festival on Saturday 17th September!
